DESCRIPTION
The American Diabetes Association, Michigan office, has an exciting internship opportunity available with our programs department. The American Diabetes Association is the leading authoritative source of information for people with diabetes and their families. Through a variety of activities focused on reaching the diagnosed and those at high risk for diabetes, the Association works to achieve its mission: to prevent and cure diabetes and to improve the lives of all people affected by diabetes. Please note that this internship is UNPAID, but can be used for credit.

Camp Midicha’s purpose is to (1) provide a broad variety of activities in a safe and fun environment, (2) encourage socialization and support among youth with diabetes, (3) help campers gain independence and self-confidence, and (4) to take an informal approach to diabetes education, with emphasis on the importance of diet, insulin, exercise and blood glucose monitoring.

Duration: January 2010 through June 2010 (duration is negotiable)
Hours: 10 - 15hrs/ week

Camp Midicha’s Intern responsibilities include (but not limited to):
* The intern will provide team support for the programs team specifically working on pre-camp and camp projects.
* The intern will be mainly responsible for camp family communications including email, mailings, phone calls and targeted recruitment.

The following professional skills will be developed through the internship:
* Strategic planning
* Communication
* Customer Service
* Other administrative duties as assigned



REQUIREMENTS
* Excellent writing and communication skills
* Eagerness to learn new things and work in a team environment
* Proficiency in Internet, Email, MS Word and Excel
* Strong written and verbal communication skills
* Organizational skills
