The American Diabetes Association is the nation's leading nonprofit health organization providing diabetes research, information and advocacy. The mission of the American Diabetes Association is to prevent and cure diabetes and to improve the lives of all people affected by diabetes.

DESCRIPTION
The American Diabetes Association is proud to announce the availability of an exciting internship positions in our Miami-Dade office. The office is located at 8405 NW 53 Street, Suite A-101, Miami, FL 33166. Internships are available for the 2009/2010 semesters.

The ADA seeks a highly motivated, self-starting student who is passionate about public service. This intern will provide support to ADA staff and gain valuable skills and insights while assisting with event planning, corporate research and volunteer outreach for American Diabetes Association events in Miami-Dade.

RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:

• Assisting with logistical planning of Community Programs with pre- and post-event follow-up.
• Assisting with implementation of marketing strategies for event.
• Researching charitable programs of major local corporations.
• Working closely with volunteers.
• Utilize communication tools to track response rates, generate and engage prospective sponsors and strategic partners.
• Work with staff to collect and solicit in-kind donations for events.

ADA internships are unpaid, though college credit may apply. The hours are part-time and the schedule can be flexible.

REQUIREMENTS

* Enjoy interacting with the public on the phone and in person
* Ability to lift up to 25 pounds
* Commitment to a flexible work schedule of a minimum of 10 hours per week 
* Bilingual Spanish / English
* Excellent writing and interpersonal communication skills. 
* Experience with Microsoft Office applications and web-savvy. 
* Ability to prioritize and handle a variety of assignments simultaneously. 
* Attention to detail and accountability. 
* Currently enrolled as an undergraduate or graduate student. 
* High school student applications will also be accepted for impressive candidates.
