DESCRIPTION
The American Diabetes Association (ADA) seeks a highly motivated, self-starting student who is passionate about public health/diabetes. The Special Events Department Intern will provide support to ADA staff and gain valuable skills and insights on event planning and fundraising. This opportunity is available at our Home Office in Alexandria, Virginia. This position helps to write and develop the national communications, marketing and fund-raising tools that benefit the education, advocacy and research of the American Diabetes Association.

Duration: Fall 2009 Semester
Hours: 10-20 hours per week

Transportation: Responsible for own travel expenses. The office is located at 1701 North Beauregard St., Alexandria, VA. It is metro accessible via a shuttle service from the Pentagon City metro station.

Description & Responsibilities: The internship supports each of our signature fund-raising events at the national level, aiding in the writing, developing and marketing of communication and promotional tools. This internship requires a commitment of approximately 10-20 hours per week (work schedule flexible) in exchange for class credit. Students in Communications, Public Relations, Marketing, Business, Nonprofit Management or other related fields are encouraged to apply.


REQUIREMENTS
* Passion for public health issues and the Mission of the American Diabetes Association
* Excellent writing, research and communication skills
* Experience in fundraising and event planning
* Currently enrolled as an upper-level Undergraduate student
* Some work experience
* Ability to prioritize and handle a variety of assignments simultaneously
* Proficiency in MS Office Suite, Internet and e-mail
